  • The Zhangs have both played on the Chinese National volleyball teams
  • Coach Zhang was an assistant coach at the University of Washington 1991-1993
  • Coach Zhang was an assistant coach at the Kalamazoo College, MI 1996-97
  • Coach Zhang was an assistant coach at Hillsdale College, MI 1994-1996
  • Coach Qu has coached the Chinese Junior National team for over 10 years in the 1980s
  • Coach Tian has coached Beijing Professional volleyball team in 1980s, where recent USA national team head coach Lang "Jenny" Ping played during his tenure. He converted her from middle blocker to outside hitter, a position where she later recieved the MVP/Best Hitter awards in Olympics and World Championships and gotten the "Iron Hammer" nickname.
  • Furthermore, they both coached Club Teams placing 2nd and 5th place at US Junior National. In 1998, they coached the City Beach 15 Black, which finished 1st in the Northern California 15 Division and 5th at National.

They are currently the coaches for Castilleja School and Eclipse Volleyball Club. They will assist all teams in practices The Zhangs currently reside in North Valley San Jose. They enjoy teaching young kids fundamentals of volleyball and watching them develop and grow into successful individuals. In their spare time, they enjoy gardening, sight-seeing and watching sports.

Dan Zhang, Director

  • He is in his 9th year as club director.
  • Dan coached numerous camps and clinics at Stanford, and at various High schools in Michigan and California.
  • Dan has been coaching at Eclipse summer and fall clinics since 1999.
  • Dan competed on Stanford Univ.'s Varsity Volleyball team.
  • He was selected by Volleyball Monthly Magazine's Fab 50 as the top 50 Best high school players in the country in 1997.
  • He led team Nike to 18s 2nd place finish at the US Junior Nationals in 1997.

Dan enjoys watching most sports, and playing volleyball, tennis, basketball in his spare time. You could also find him on the Stanford sand courts when time permits, which is less often now since he is also busy teaching his new born Zachary to be a future star athlete. He holds B.S and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering. He is currently employed by a software company in Mountain View as a Technical Account Manager in Partner Product Solutions.

Dan is also an activist in a number of non-profit organizations where he thrives to make an significant impact by applying his passion for a more sustainable environment using technology.

I taught cheerleading to girls ages 5-10 for Kidsafe during 2002-2004.
I also have been teaching/coaching swimming ages 3 months up to adults. I coached a non competitive swim team at 5 Cities Swim Center down in Arroyo Grande, CA.

  • 2004-2008 Carnegie Mellon Univ varsity volleyball team starting outside hitter. Senior year, led as 2nd on team with 39 service aces, 343 digs and registered 203 kills.
  • Prepped at Mitty HS, San Jose and competed on volleyball team
  • Competed at Junior Olympic Invitationals with Citybeach volleyball club
  • Western Pennsylvania School of the Deaf volleyball clinic instructor
  • Carnegie Mellon University Volleyball Course instructor

My main motivation for coaching volleyball is my pure love of the sport. I've been playing competitively for ten years now and I recognize good coaching techniques from bad. I also have realized over my years of play what impact coaches have on development of young athletes. I hold myself up to a high standard of coaching -- a standard that emphasizes not only learning, but also fun.

          • 2005 Coached Brethren Christian High School Varsity Volley; finished 3rd in CIF-SS D-3
          • 2006-2008 coached varsity football at Menlo Atherton High School; won CIF-CCS in 2008

    Dave Radford is returning for his 4th season with Eclipse for his third season with the 18 and under team.  Dave started playing volleyball from a young age which lead to playing in high school and getting a scholarship to play at Hope International University in Fullerton, CA where he was a utility player and graduated as a libero.  Since 2001 Dave has found himself coaching sports and trying to help better the student athlete in their skills, abilities, and character.  In 2009 Dave decided it was time to focus his coaching abilities on volleyball and has never regretted that choice.  Throughout the years of adapting to new volleyball schemes and ideas about team development, Dave's two mantras he coaches all teams by are: "coach and develop players to be ready to play at the next level" and "don't worry about the outcome, worry about how you finish".  Dave looks forward to building upon the foundation of this years 18's team as there is great talent returning and new talent arriving.  While the bar is set, Dave has the utmost confidence in his team's abilities to preform.

Coach Simo Taoufik

  • He played volleyball professionally for the FUS team in Rabat, and was the setter of the Moroccan national team at the Olympic qualifier in South Africa.

Simo Taoufik is a former professional volleyball player from Morocco.  His professional career highlights include leading his team, Fatah Union Sport, as setter and captain, to win both the Moroccan Championship and the Moroccan Cup Tournament multiple times. Simo also played on the National Team as a setter, and represented Morocco in the 2008 Olympic-qualifying matches in South Africa. 
In addition to competing, Simo has coached volleyball players of all-levels for the past four years.  His experience ranges from (a) teaching 11-15 year-old children the basic volleyball skills to (b) training high school players for weekly matches to (c) coaching college players in tournament competition.  Previously coached the Men’s Club Team at Stanford University from 2009-2011, and currently coaches the high school boys and girls JV and varsity teams at Eastside Preparatory School in East Palo Alto, CA. 

Simo received his degree in English Literature from Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco. Today, he is employed as a Middle School P.E. teacher at Eastside Prep.

Coach Yu Zhao

She has played volleyball for thirteen years. She used to be a professional volleyball player in China before I came to the United States. In 2008, St. John's University volleyball team recruited me.  As a full-scholarship participant for the last three years at St. John's, She has been an undergraduate assistant coach for the volleyball team. When I was on the team, we got regular-season champion in Big East Conference.
